Heading into the game at the Pasir Gudang Corporation Stadium on the back of last Friday's demoralising 3-1 loss to Hougang United, the Young Tigers were expected to be put to the sword by the fifth-placed DPMM.
However, following a goalless first half, it was the hosts who took the lead in the 47th minute when Faizat Ghazli beat the offside trap and raced onto Akhir Bahari's through-ball, before firing past Wardun Yussof.
Two minutes later, Akhir nearly got a goal of his own when he sent a curling effort from the edge of the area back off the post, before Maxsius Musa somehow managed to head wide from the rebound despite having the entire goal to aim for.
Nonetheless, Maxsius did make amends in the 80th minute when he pounced after Faizat's initial shot had been parried by Wardun to double his side's advantage.
DPMM did manage to pull one back six minutes from time when Tales dos Santos capitalised on some indecisive defending in the opposition area to score, but it proved to be too little too late for the Bruneian outfit as they were handed a third defeat of the campaign.
