Morocco international Monsef Zerka scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute to hand the Jaguars their first-ever win over the Bruneian outfit, although the visitors were made to work for the three points after Asraf Rashid was sent off six minutes after the hour mark.
Although Tanjong Pagar have been impressive all season long so far, and entered Sunday's clash at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium third on the table, they were expected to face a tough test against a DPMM side that were looking to make it three wins on the trot.
However, Patrick Vallee's charges took the lead after 19 minutes when Zerka turned Dino Drpic and skipped past Subhi Abdilah's challenge, before firing past a hapless Wardun Yussof.
The hosts did see plenty of the ball but failed to make the most of their possession, and opposition goalkeeper Aurelien Herisson was rarely troubled throughout the 90 minutes.
Nonetheless, Tanjong Pagar's excellent evening out was slightly tarnished in the 66th minute when Asraf picked up his second booking for a rash challenge on Joao Moreira, but they ultimately did enough to inflict a first home defeat of the season on DPMM.
Zerka's strike - his 6th of the campaign - also saw him move ahead of Geylang International captain Jozef Kaplan as the outright top scorer in the competition.
