It was a homecoming of sorts for Tanjong Pagar, having previously called Clementi Stadium home. However, it was the new occupants who took the victory 2-1.
Ismadi Mukhtar shot Tampines into the lead after his dazzling run from the wing, only for Jaguars midfielder Takaya Kawanabe to equalize mid-way through the second half.
Tanjong Pagar would have been forgiven for thinking they would leave their former home ground with a point, before Jamil Ali scored in the third minute of stoppage time to snatch the victory for Tampines.
The loss to the Stags means the Jaguars have now endured four defeats in a row, but Tanjong Pagar manager Terry Pathmanathan felt his team had put in their best effort.
"It is really sad to end the game in that manner, but I can't fault the players for their effort. We had our chances to bury the game, but that's how football goes." he said to sleague.com
With these three points, Tampines rise to fourth place in the S-League, two points behind Home United. The Protectors did their part in keeping top spot by grinding out a win against Hougang United.
Jalan Besar Stadium was the venue for that match, with both teams choosing to play a cautious game, leading to a dull showing for most of the first half.
Home finally took the lead after Hougang defender Syaqir Sulaiman handled a cross into the danger area, awarding the Protectors a penalty. Qiu Li kept his nerve and put the spot kick away for Home's first goal.
It was another case of a poor defensive showing for Hougang that lead to the second Protectors' goal. Hougang captain Lau Meng Meng tried to play the ball out of defence, but ended up giving it away to Home player Nor Azli Yusoff, leaving his goalkeeper Fadhil Salim with no chance.
The two goal deficit left Hougang coach Nenad Bacina no choice but to introduce striker Jordan Webb. Rallyed by Webb's introduction, Hougang pulled one back on the 80th minute when Stanislav Vidakovic sent in a glancing header past Home goalkeeper Lionel Lewis.
However, the Protectors clung on to their single-goal cushion, taking a 2-1 win over Hougang.
