Following a goalless first half at the Queenstown Stadium, the Jaguars fell behind in the 62nd minute when Shotaro Ihata's firm header took a wicked deflection off Ismael Benahmed and found the back of the net.
But in the final minute, a loose ball fell to Kamel Ramdani just inside the area and he drilled his shot home, despite the Taufiq Ghani's best efforts to keep it out, to salvage a share of the spoils for the hosts.
Although some would argue Tanjong Pagar did not deserve the point given they looked distinctly lethargic and were outplayed by their opponents at times, Vallee claims he was happy with their performance.
"Firstly, I want to congratulate my team for all their hard work," he said.
"The season is not over yet but our first objective of finishing inside the top six has been achieved. I think we deserved this for all the hard work we have put in.
"I'm very happy with today's [Wednesday's] game because, even though we've had a lot of things go against us this month, we've never given up and the players want to achieve good results.
"Even a minute before the end, we managed to equalise and that's good."
Not for the first time this season, Ramdani was the saviour for Tanjong Pagar and apart from his goal, he was also one of their brightest sparks as he regularly found space in dangerous positions.
But as ever, Vallee refused to give one player too much credit and preferred to praise the team, while also thanking the board for giving him the chance to build a strong team at the start of the season.
"You can see what Kamel brings to the team," the Frenchman added. "Sure, Kamel is very important but I view the foreign and local players the same.
"Of course, Kamel is technically better and he tries to help the team play well but it's not just about one player. It's one squad and one club.
"When it came to [player] recruitment and everything, Tanjong Pagar gave me a free hand and again, it's not over yet.
"Now Tanjong Pagar are making a comeback in the S.League. Let's see what we can do to acheive something good."
The game could however have been very different had the Eagles not have had a legitimate goal chalked off in the 87th minute; Jozef Kaplan racing onto Stefan Milojevic's brilliant through-pass and firing past Herisson, only for the linesman to incorrectly flag for offside.
And while Geylang coach V. Kanan tried his best not to fault the refereeing for costing his side a victory, he believes his players too had to shoulder some of the blame.
"I think everyone saw it was not offside," he said. "Either he [Kaplan] was on the line or he didn't run early.
"I don't know what to say about our linesmen. I don't want to talk about the referees every time they cost us the game.
"But we deserved it because in the last minute, everybody pushed forward when we had a counterattack. We were leading 1-0 and there was no need for so many of them to go.
"This is two valuable points dropped and it's making it difficult it he want to finish seventh, especially after last week's [2-1] loss [to Woodlands Wellington.
"It's happened so many times this season when we've lost concentration; the game against Albirex [Niigata (S)] we also lost in the 93rd minute."
Nonetheless, one positive for Kanan on Wednesday was the impressive displays from a number of his Prime League players, including right-back Harithzan Jantan and midfielder Fuad Ramli.
"I thought the boys played excellent," he praised. "Even the Prime League boys overshadowed them [the Tanjong Pagar players].
"We created many chances and I think their [Tanjong Pagar's] five foreigners had no answer for us. Our young boys especially played above expectations.
"We have a very thin squad and I'm happy with the Prime League boys that came in. All were excellent and they rose to the occasion.
"Needless to say, Tanjong Pagar are a good team with quality players, but we matched them and were maybe even better."
The result saw Tanjong Pagar tentatively move up to third on the table, a point ahead of Home United who now have a game in hand.
