Eliseu is currently being targeted by the Eagles and has just a year left on his contract with the Andalusians. The 29-year-old is among a group of Malaga players considering an exit from the club following the confirmation of their one-season ban from European competition.
The list includes talented youngster Isco and veteran defender Martin Demischelis with Roque Santa Cruz and Joaquin already confirming their exits in recent weeks.
It seems Eliseu is keen to join the throng as he appears to be suffering from homesickness after six years in the La Liga and the Serie A.
"Everyone would like to play at a big club and that's what Benfica is. Who know's if I can come back (to Portugal). I've been away from home a long time now and the sooner I can return, the better," he told Antena 1.
"In the past, an obstacle for such a move was Málaga, or rather, Pellegrini. Now let's see what happens."
The Portuguese international made just 15 starts over the previous campaign and it is expected that he could miss out on the first team altogether under managerial favourite Bernd Schuster.
