Latest news emanating from Santos indicates that the Brazilian club has accepted two bids, believed to be from La Liga sides Real Madrid and Barcelona, for their star player Neymar.
Valdano told Marca that Los Blancos should pull out all the stops to bring the 21-year old to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, in order to prevent Neymar from turning out in Barcelona colours next season.
"It would be a huge coup if Real Madrid manage to sign Neymar," he stated.
"Not just because he's a great player, but also because they'd then take him right from under Barcelona's nose."
However, Neymar's compatriot and Barcelona defender Dani Alves believed the attacker would have a much bigger role to play with the Catalan side.
"It would be a relief if Neymar signed because it would help Messi a lot, when two players are good, they understand each other better. They can play in different positions. I don't think compatibility would be a problem because Neymar is a very humble guy," he shared.
"The team would certainly be more competitive."
