Butragueno quashes Mourinho exit rumours

Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno has attempted to quieten speculation over the future of coach Jose Mourinho.

Such have been the reports of a breakdown in Mourinho's relations with both senior figures at the club and some of his players that it had looked inevitable he would leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

But former Real defender Butragueno painted a different picture when collecting an award on Mourinho's behalf, presented by Spanish newspaper Marca to the best coach of last season.

Butragueno tried to pour cold water on the speculation over Mourinho's future, saying: "It seems simple. He is a man who has a contract."

Mourinho's contract, signed at the end of last season, runs until 2016.

The 49-year-old Butragueno played more than 300 times for the Spanish giants and although he was twice on UEFA Cup-winning teams, he never lifted the then European Cup.

Looking forward to Real's chances this season ahead of their quarter-final meeting with Galatasaray, Butragueno said: "We have to first eliminate Galatasaray. We could then meet Barcelona and then we'll see."
