Real have long been criticised for a perceived unwillingness to support Castilla academy graduates, preferring instead to splash the cash to bring the world's best players to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona, in comparison, have always prided themselves in having a world class youth set-up that has unearthed the likes of Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Lionel Messi over the years.

It appears that repeated calls for coach Jose Mourinho to promote youth players at the club may finally have been heard by the Portuguese as he has given Raphael Varane, Jose Maria Callejon and now Morata opportunities to feature in the first team.

Morata, 20, shone over the weekend after he scored the winning goal against Levante with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in the 83rd minute. And he has a supporter in former Arsenal midfielder Fabregas who wants to see him feature more often over the season. The Barca midfielder also played down Real's difficulties in producing homegrown talent over the years.

"(Alvaro) Morata, with five minutes left, scored the goal. But sometimes the inexplicable happens for a reason. Opportunities must be given to the boy," Fabregas told Onda Cero on Monday.

"Everyone has their own life, their own history. Some people have to leave, there are others who stay. Each club has its own history and in this sense what has to happen will happen."

Even former Barcelona player Jordi Cruyff came out in defence of Jose Mourinho recently, stating that coaches should have the final say on whether they want to focus on developing youth players.

"Madrid has a good youth system and therefore can take advantage of it more, but everyone has the right to do things as they want," he said.

Morata could secure more chances to feature for the first team as Mourinho had specified after the game that he had personally requested Castilla manager Alberto Toril to not release the youngster after his youth contract came to an end.

Madrid next face Athletic Bilbao at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday night.
