Having made a full recovery from the broken tibia that kept him out for the second half of last season, Villa has been working hard to regain his place in the Barcelona starting 11. However, team-mates Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez have moved ahead of him in the pecking order during his absence, leading to the Spaniard making just one start in seven La Liga games so far.
Marca reports that Villa has set himself a Christmas deadline to fight his way back into the first team, as the striker remains optimistic that Vilanova intends to ease him back into regular action. Nonetheless, sources in Barcelona indicate that the former Valencia man is also pondering the possibility of holding talks with his manager regarding his future with the Catalans.
Despite his eagerness for consistent playing time, Villa has no intention of disrupting Barcelona team morale. As such, it is believed that he is willing to leave the club peacefully should Vilanova decide that the forward should look elsewhere for better prospects.
