This year's UEFA Best Player in Europe award was recently given to Barcelona's Andres Iniesta. The Spaniard edged out his club-mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo. With the trio expected to be in the running for the FIFA Ballon d'Or, Blatter told Marca that he hopes the second award is picked up by a La Roja representative as well.
"I like them (Spain's players) very much," he shared.
"I think that a Spanish player should be chosen for the award (FIFA Ballon d'Or) after what they achieved at this year's European championship. But, we have no influence."
Singling out midfielder Xavi and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, the FIFA chief praised the duo for being exemplary both on and off the pitch.
"They (Casillas and Xavi) embody important values about hard work and how it can provide for success. They also reflect Spain's great youth system, one that has helped unite the country," Blatter stated.
"Casillas and Xavi are an excellent professionals on the field and off it they are no different."
