A first-half strike from Adriano was enough to hand Barca all three points at the Nou Camp, but the Argentine tactician believes his side did more than enough to warrant more to show for their efforts.

"The result feels like a punishment for Valencia, but that's football," he told EFE. "Football can be very cruel sometimes.

"A single corner-kick proved to be decisive. We had our chances to level the scoring after the break.

"We had a very good game in defence and it's a real shame that we were unable to score."

Nonetheless, Pellegrino insists his side can take heart from the way they gave the Catalan outfit a real run for their money.

"We are obviously disappointed that we did not get a positive result," he added. "But I'm happy with the way we played.

"We're going to win many games if we keep this up."

Valencia have picked up just two points from their opening three games in the league and are currently 17th on the table.
