Fabregas suffered a loss of form towards the end of last season after a scintillating start to his Barcelona career, with the player himself admitting to having a 'mental block' and problems adapting to Pep Guardiola's system.
Xavi has backed his team mate to overcome the difficulties and believes that the former Arsenal man will contribute to the team with vital goals like he did in the start of last season.
"Cesc is important for the team," he told AS.
"He will make a difference over the course of the season and score some vital goals."
The 32-year-old then discussed Barca's slender 1-0 victory over Valencia on Sunday, courtesy of Adriano's first-half strike, and was delighted to have overcome such stern opposition
"I do not play for man-of-the-match awards," he continued. "I do so to win with the team, and we did.
"We have earned three very important points. It was not a great game, but we got a good result against a strong team."
Xavi and Fabregas have been both called up to play for Spain in their international fixtures in the coming week, where they will face Saudi Arabia in a friendly before facing Georgia in their World Cup qualification campaign.
