The Dane gets the better of his marker.

The Catalan club is rumoured to be interested in signing the Denmark international but they have not made any official enquiries on the matter.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to hold onto the duo of Agger and Martin Skrtel but the likes of AC Milan, Manchester City and Barcelona are all eager to sign a defender in the current transfer window.

Mascherano gave a glowing tribute of his former team-mate's qualities on Monday as he told El Mundo Deportivo: "Agger has great qualities in central defence. He is clever and calm with the ball and can play a major role in the building of the game."

"He can actually score some goals also.

"As a person he is a great guy who takes his work very seriously. I have enjoyed playing with him."

The Argentinean played in the centre of defence for the majority of the season as Barcelona posted the best defensive record in the La Liga with just 29 goals conceded.
