The 25-year-old's star has been on the wane since he joined Los Merengues in 2010. Back then, he was the hottest young property in Spanish football and his dribbling and eye for goal earned him favourable comparisons with Real legend Guti.
Real snapped him up for €10 million but the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Mesut Ozil prevented him from making an impact and he was not given much of a chance by new manager Jose Mourinho.
Over the past season, he went back to Getafe on a season-long loan but recurring injuries prevented him from recapturing the form that saw him score 8 goals in the 2009/10 season and he only made 13 appearances in the league, scoring a solitary goal against Malaga in October 2011.
ABC Deportes report that Real are interested in sending him back on loan once again as Getafe do not have the financial wherewithal to secure his rights in an outright transfer. The midfielder is said to be keen to stay at Real but knows that Mourinho will likely not want to to tinker with his winning formula and is already considering bringing in fresh faces in the summer transfer window.
Leon was unearthed by current Sevilla coach Michel and helped his side achieve 11th place in La Liga in the past season.
