Recent reports in the Spanish media indicate that Inter Milan's Maicon will soon be making the switch from the San Siro to the Santiago Bernabeu. However, Salgado shared with Marca that he considered Walker a much more reliable option than the Inter full-back.
"He [Walker] moves up the field like a bullet, he is really quick and he does a lot of damage in attack, while he is better at the back. For me, he is the best, but his price could make a transfer impossible," the Spaniard stated.
"Brazilian full-backs are all the same. Spectacular while moving up the field, but they create problems to any team in defence."
The two-time Champions League winner also advised manager Jose Mourinho not to neglect the talent emerging from Los Blancos' youth ranks, singling out 20-year old right-back Dani Carvajal as a player worth developing.
"I have Real Madrid TV here in England and I have seen him [Carvajal] play several times. He seems to be a wonderful alternative," Salgado enthused.
"You either sign Maicon or [Philipp] Lahm, experienced players, or you bet on a youngster. And there you have Carvajal, who could be Real Madrid's starting full-back in two years."
