Modric has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham following the departure of manager Harry Redknapp, which came after the club failed to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.

The talented midfielder was long been linked with a move to Manchester United and also came close to signing for Chelsea last summer, but Suker is now hoping Modric will make Spain's La Liga his next port of call.

"As a future president of Croatian football, I'd love to see Luka Modric join Real Madrid," he told Marca.

"He has the quality and the ability to play for a big club like Real. But it is a question I will pose with my heart to [coach Jose] Mourinho and [president Florentino] Perez."

Although Modric definitely has the quality to succeed in Spain's top flight, it remains to be seen if he will be able to force his way into Los Blancos' starting XI if a move does materialise, considering the wealth of playmakers Mourinho currently has at his disposal.

In Mesut Ozil, Real currently have one of the world's best midfielders in their ranks while former Ballon d'Or winner Kaka is having settle for a place on the bench due to the talent in Mourinho's side.
