Vilanova served as Guardiola's assistant through the ranks of Barcelona B to the wildly successful first team, has come under comparisons with his former boss having developed from Barcelona's youth academy and is steeped in Barcelona's footballing philosophy.
Iniesta believes that Vilanova's appointment is a right move by the Barcelona but moved to ease the pressure of expectations on the incoming manager to achieve the treble Guardiola won in his debut season as manager.
"It is not good for everyone to start comparing Tito with Pep," Iniesta told El Pais. "Let's start at the beginning, do the right thing by all and not put extra pressure on Tito.
"There is no doubt that the philosophy will not change, but Tito has his ideas. He is a new coach who will want to apply his own method; his way of seeing things, working, conveying things.
"In short, he is different from Pep. Pep has similarities with him as they worked together, side by side, but Tito is Tito and Pep is Pep."
Guardiola vacated the Barcelona managerial seat after taking a year's sabbatical from the game but is recently linked with a role at Bayern Munich.
