Barcelona's marketing director Laurent Colette was present at the official opening of FCB Escola, the club's inaugural training facility located outside of Spain. While the Catalan club has various ties with youth facilities in many countries, this is the first overseas school that would be run exclusively by Barcelona training staff.
The FCB Escola aims to train players and coaches of both genders. Colette told fcbarcelona.com that the club is looking at the facility with a simple philosophy.
"The seeds – we’ll water them and when the tree grows, we’ll look after it." he said.
According to FCB Escola director Xevi Marce, the principles behind the famed La Masia, the football academy that produced Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Xavi, will be transmitted to this new project.
"The concept of the Masia is unique and can be found in Barcelona, but its values are transmitted via the FCB Escola." he stated.
"It is a period of learning over the long range, which demands a lot of care over the details in developing our sport and the humanity of the players."
It is believed the Spanish giants view Indonesia as an emerging Asian footballing power. The club hopes to integrate themselves into the country and develop a successful, long-term relationship.
