Aguirre committed to Atletico

Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre has sought to end speculation about his future at the Primera Liga club by confirming he intends to stay at the Vicente Calderon.

Aguirre's position has been the subject of intense speculation recently, despite his contract being automatically extended until 2009 after earning Atletico Champions League football for the first time in 11 years with their fourth-placed finish in La Liga.

However, Aguirre insisted following his side's season-ending 3-1 defeat at Valencia on Sunday that he has no intention of going anywhere, saying: "I have one year left at Atletico Madrid. I'm going to fulfil my contract because contracts are to be fulfilled."

The 49-year-old Mexican has been linked with his old position of Mexico coach earlier this year.

Aguirre is scheduled to meet with Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo, general manager Miguel Angel Gil, and sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch later this week.

"We'll talk about everything that's been done well and done poorly, of the highs and the lows," said Aguirre.

"Suso (Garcia Pitarch) did his job well and already has two players who have made verbal agreements for next season. Sure, we have to improve in many areas, also the work on the pitch."
