Rooney handed in a transfer request at the end of the season, and has since been linked with several clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Arsenal despite former manager Sir Alex Ferguson rejecting his request.

Wenger admitted that the prospect of having Rooney in his side is hard to ignore.

"Rooney could be an interesting player for everybody in the world, who would turn him down?" he told Al Jazeera.

"David Moyes' first challenge is to go in to Manchester and bridge the gap between him and Rooney. If that is feasible or not depends on his personality and if Rooney bears a grudge or not, we will see.

"It will be interesting to see how that will be handled."

Rooney is currently on international duty with England and is set to make his future at the club clear when he returns for showdown talks with new manager David Moyes.
