Manchester United's supporters sing "Paul Scholes, he scores goals", but they will do so no more after the midfielder retired for a second time on Saturday.

Bradford vs Manchester United (Premier League, March 2000)


David Beckham's delivery from the corner was inch-perfect, picking out Scholes in his usual position just outside the box. Scholes watched the ball come across across his body and then, with perfect technique, met it with a fierce right-foot volley that flew inside the post.

Manchester United vs Panathinaikos (Champions League, November 2000)

Scholes was involved twice in the build-up as Manchester United pieced together a 32-pass move. Teddy Sheringham flicked David Beckham's pass on to Scholes, who floated a sublime chip over Panathinaikos goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis to seal a 3-1 win.

Aston Villa vs Manchester United (Premier League, December 2006)


Ryan Giggs' corner was headed clear but the ball fell to Scholes, whose sweet volley from 25 yards dipped over helpless Aston Villa goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly, brushing the underside of the crossbar on its way in.

Manchester United vs Blackburn (Premier League, March 2007)

Scholes was famous for his thunderbolts but this showed a different side to the midfielder, who skipped past two defenders before striking a low cross-shot past Brad Friedel. Manchester United had been 1-0 down but won 4-1 - a key moment on their route to the title.

Manchester United vs Barcelona (Champions League semi-final, second leg, April 2008)

After a goalless first leg, Scholes' unstoppable strike booked Manchester United a place in the final against Chelsea. Gianluca Zambrotta had halted Cristiano Ronaldo's run but his pass went straight to Scholes, who took a touch and before unleashing a swerving shot into the top corner.end
