Sir Alex Ferguson has warned his players they will feel the full effect of his "hairdryer" if they blow the title in the same manner as last season.

As Manchester United prepare to welcome Everton to Old Trafford, Ferguson's mind has wandered back to the corresponding fixture last season.

At that time, they were five points ahead of Manchester City and having established a 4-2 lead inside the final 10 minutes, looked to have one hand on a 20th title.

But Everton's astonishing comeback was followed by defeat at City the following week, allowing their rivals to seize an initiative that, despite that amazing last-day drama, they did not lose.

"If I had to pick out one single match where we lost our title it would have to be that game," Ferguson told United Review.

"What I can say is that it won't happen again - or if it does, then put it this way, they will feel the full effect of the hairdryer."

Meanwhile, Everton manager David Moyes believes his side have a better chance of winning at Manchester United on Sunday than at any other stage during his reign at the Toffees.

Moyes, who has been in charge at Goodison Park since 2002, has yet to record a victory at Old Trafford, with their last win there coming over 20 years ago.

However, they did draw 4-4 at United last season and beat the Red Devils 1-0 on Merseyside in the first game of this league campaign, during which they have only lost three games.

"Someone told me it was 1992 when we last won at Old Trafford, so that tells you how difficult the task is," Moyes said. "But we have been quite good this year in that we have not lost many games and always been in there.

"We won earlier in the season against Manchester United and we drew there at the end of last season, so we will go there probably in a better frame of mind and with a little bit more confidence than at any other time since I arrived here.

"We will go there and try to get a positive result."

Also on Sunday, Aston Villa moved out of the bottom three as second half goals from Christian Benteke and Charles N'Zogbia earned them a 2-1 victory over West Ham at Villa Park.

Benteke broke the deadlock from the penalty spot with his 15th goal of the campaign and N'Zogbia made the points safe with a superb free-kick.

Ashley Westwood's late own-goal could not prevent Villa's first win in nine league games and ended a run of four successive home league defeats.

Paul Lambert's side also looked more secure in defending set pieces than in recent games with Ciaran Clark impressive.

It was a vital three points for the midland club ahead of successive matches away to Arsenal and at home to Manchester City.

But West Ham have now lost five successive away games and are in danger of being sucked towards the relegation zone.
