Brendan Rodgers' men followed a 5-0 Premier League mauling of Norwich with respectable 2-2 draws against Arsenal and Manchester City. Nonetheless, Liverpool remained nine points off the coveted fourth spot, currently possessed by Tottenham.

Speaking to the club's official website, Shelvey was confident that the Reds would continue on their charge up the table.

"We are still going to keep pushing for fourth place. Brendan is starting to really get his point across and it is starting to show in our performances," he said.

"We had a blip at Oldham in the FA Cup but in the last two league games against Arsenal and Manchester City we've played really well and deserved to get six points. There have been steps in the right direction. In the past few weeks, we've gone on quite a run in the Premier League."

One team-mate that Shelvey picked out to play a vital role in Liverpool's ambitions was Daniel Sturridge, as he confessed that the former Chelsea man had been nothing short of impressive so far.

"Since Daniel has come in, he has been so first class. He is so sharp in and around the box," Shelvey noted.

"With his performances at Liverpool, he will start to get recognition and become a regular international as well."\

Liverpool will play West Brom in a Premier League fixture next Monday.
