The previous time these two rivals met, Manchester United left Anfield with three points after goals from Rafael and Robin van Persie cancelled out Steven Gerrard's opener.

Speaking to the team's official website, Whiteside revealed that everyone associated to the club looked forward to games against Liverpool.

"It's the first date you look for when the fixture list comes out, not just as players but supporters too," he shared.

Leading the Premier League table by seven points, Sir Alex Ferguson's squad will go all out to do the double against the Reds so as to heap the pressure on second-placed Manchester City, who face a tough tie against Arsenal later that day.

Although Liverpool are unlikely to enter the race for the title, Whiteside still believed that beating them would mean more to the supporters than defeating any other team.

"I still think it's the biggest game of the season. I know City are coming close to it but they still have a long way to go," he stated.

"If you're looking at United and Liverpool with 19 and 18 league titles, then City are a long way off that and well behind as far as history is concerned."
