Bremen seek to keep De Bruyne

Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf admitted that he would like to keep Chelsea's on-loan midfielder Kevin De Bruyne at the club for if possible.

An impressive comeback from Bremen...

De Bruyne signed for Chelsea from Genk last January but was sent back on loan to the Belgian side for the remainder of the season. He returned to Stamford Bridge over the summer but with the Blues recruiting similiar players in the likes of Oscar, Victor Moses and Eden Hazard, De Bruyne was sent out on loan to Werder Bremen for the season.

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Werder Bremen, chipping in with five goals and eight assists in all competitions for the club so far this season and Schaaf feels that it will be a pity if the youngster returns to Chelsea only to warm the bench.

"It would be very sad to see such a player leave so quickly", Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf was quoted as saying by Belgian broadcaster RTBF.

"But it will obviously depend upon the policy of Chelsea", he added.

Schaaf is clear on De Bruyne's talents and believes Werder Bremen have done Chelsea a favour in developing the Belgian, although he does admit they have benefited hugely too.

"Our role is to help him reach a level which one day means he will be an undisputed starter at Chelsea", he said.

"And I believe he has the qualities, he just needs to be a bit more mature.

"This allows us to take advantage of his enormous potential, it remains to be seen until when, but I hope we won't see him go back in the near future."
