Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United enjoy a four point cushion at the top heading into Wednesday's Boxing Day clash with Alan Pardew's Newcastle.
United only managed a draw at Swansea on Sunday and will be looking to bounce back with a win at Old Trafford against a Toon side just five points above the drop zone.
The North East may have a big say in the title race on Wednesday as champions Manchester City travel to Sunderland.
Sunderland are also fighting to steer clear of a relegation scrap and can actually approach their tie with City with some confidence. The Black Cats beat Southampton 1-0 on Saturday and play Roberto Mancini's team knowing that they beat City on New Year's Day thanks to Ji Dong-Won's late goal.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will be hoping to build on Sunday's 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa when they make the trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich.
Elsewhere, Queens Park Rangers host West Bromwich Albion at Loftus Road, Reading square off against the in-form Swansea, Southampton are away to Fulham, and high-flying Everton entertain Wigan.
Aston Villa then kick things off Tottenham Hotspur who have the chance to move above North London rivals Arsenal - currently in fourth - if they can avoid defeat at Villa Park. This is because West Ham's derby game against Arsenal has been postponed due to industrial action.
In the late kick-off, Liverpool face a difficult game at Stoke. The home side have the toughest defence in the Premier League, but the Reds will certainly be buoyed by Saturday's 4-0 win over Fulham.
