The Gunners have performed well below expectations in the Premier League this season, managing to pick up only 21 points from 15 games, and Wenger's men currently find themselves 10th in the table.
Wenger has bore the brunt of the blame for the Gunners' struggles this season, with many disgruntled Arsenal fans highlighting the French manager's failure to properly replace former striker Robin Van Persie, who left for rivals Manchester United during the summer, as the main reason for their current troubles.
However, with Arsenal having recently agreed to a lucrative sponsorship deal with Emirates, Wenger is believed to have been given a £50m war chest to use during the upcoming transfer window, and according to the Sun, the French tactician has reportedly identified Ba as the perfect addition to his ailing squad.
The Senegalese striker has been a huge hit at Newcastle since he moved to the club in 2011 and managed to score a respectable 16 goals in 36 games last season to help the Magpies to a decent 5th place finish in the league.
Ba has been in prolific form for Newcastle again this seasons, already netting 10 goals in 15 league games and his match-winning displays for the Magpies have made him a transfer target of several top teams including the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and now Arsenal.
Despite widespread interest in his services, Ba, who only has one year left on his current deal, has allegedly told the Newcastle hierarchy that he is keen to stay at the club, although things could change if contract negotiations with the 27-year-old do not work out.
Wenger would also undoubtedly be attracted to the fact that Ba has a relatively low £7.5million buy-out clause in his Newcastle contract, and the Gunners are allegedly preparing a £60,000 a week plus add-ons contract offer for the former Hoffenheim player.
Ba was the hero for the Magpies once again on Monday as he scored a brace to help his side beat Wigan Atlhetic, and he will undoubtedly be counted on again when Newcastle take on Fulham at Craven Cottage in their next league fixture.
