There was nothing to separate Arsenal and Everton in their recent Premier League game, which ended 1-1, courtesy of goals from Theo Walcott and Marouane Fellaini.
The Gunners struck first, but Wenger told the club's official website he had an inkling David Moyes' men would get themselves back into the game.
"Overall, if I look back at the game, it was one of big physical intensity," Wenger remarked.
"We had a good start and after that I felt Everton came back. Their direct game was always a threat with Fellaini."
Although the Frenchman admitted his disappointment at losing their lead, he believed the Arsenal players put in everything they had into the game.
"We have regrets on the goal we conceded but overall, I believe that 1-1 is a fair result. It’s a good point here and it was a game of remarkable intensity," Wenger stated.
"We needed to show great spirit today to get a point because they were up for it. I can only say I’m pleased with the effort we have put in [during] the game."
Arsenal play their next Premier League fixture in two days time when Swansea visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
