Carragher: Suarez up there with Fowler

Liverpool hero Jamie Carragher claims the club's current star striker Luis Suarez is "up there" with some of the Anfield outfit's iconic forwards from the past.

Suarez arrived on the red half of Merseyside from Ajax almost two years ago and since then he has become a real fan favourite.

The Uruguayan's ability to take on defenders made him one of the most exciting players to watch in the Barclays Premier League last season, although there remained some question marks over the striker's finishing as the Reds struggled for goals.

However, this season Suarez has certainly silenced his critics by notching up a league best 10 strikes after 12 rounds - he has scored 13 goals in all competitions so far.

"He is definitely right up there," Carragher said on the club's website.

"I can only talk about the players I've played with: [Robbie] Fowler, [Michael] Owen, [Fernando] Torres, and I think he comes pretty close to that list."

Carragher added that Suarez deserves a lot of credit for managing to be so lethal in front of goal for a side which is very much in the process of rebuilding under new manager Brendan Rodgers.

"For him to do what he is doing in a side that is still building under the new manager, I wouldn't swap him for anyone in the Premier League," he said.

"I think what he does in our team and what he gives us no other player really could."

Suarez's brace for Liverpool in Saturday's 3-0 win over Wigan has brought him up to 34 goals for the club in total.
