Alongside his team-mate Danny Welbeck, Cleverley has been earmarked by many to be a potential star for Manchester United and England, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson tipping him to fill the boots of Paul Scholes one day.

Since returning from a ligament injury last season, the young Red Devil has gone from strength to strength, featuring in Great Britain's football team for London 2012, Roy Hodgson's Three Lions squad in his country's recent World Cup qualifiers and started five Premier League games for United in this campaign.

Impressed with what has seen of Cleverley so far, Macari told the Daily Express that he is expecting the 23-year old to have a bright future in the game.

"Tom's doing really well, and it's only now we're getting a real grasp of what he can actually do, he's still young, but his career has been interrupted by injury up until now. This is the first real time he's been able to stay clear of injury and play regularly for his club," Macari remarked.

"If the manager of Manchester United is picking you most games, it means he has great confidence in you. It's not only the manager of United who's picking him regularly, but the England boss is picking him regularly too. And Tom looks like a player who is going to play for club and country for a long, long time."

A former attacking midfielder himself, Macari believes Cleverley already has most of the playing attributes required to succeed, though he advised the Englishman to work on improving his goal tally.

"He has great vision, technical ability and a great work-rate. If Tom can just add goals to his portfolio, he'll be doing really well, he has everything else you need," Macari explained.

"He's nimble, agile and quick, and with his impressive work ethic, he has a great chance to do really well at United and for England."
