Despite making only four Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far, Shelvey's performances have earned him a call-up into Roy Hodgson's squad for England's World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.

Speaking to the club's official website, Kennedy elaborated on some of the game-changing attributes the 20-year has developed.

"Jonjo is still young and still has a lot to learn but he's developing into a very good player, he has done well when he has played for Liverpool this season and I like what he brings to the team." he said.

"His work rate is good and he makes things happen. He has that ability to pick a pass in the final third and he's got an eye for goal."

The former Liverpool left-back also believes Shelvey has not looked out of place alongside the more experienced duo of Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen.

"I'm not sure whether his best position is in central midfield or playing just behind a striker but wherever he plays he makes an impact," Kennedy stated.

"He has complemented Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen very well when he's played there alongside them."

Liverpool's next Premier League fixture sees them welcome Reading to Anfield on October 20th.
