Chelsea were one of the most active clubs in the recently concluded summer transfer window, but The Sun reports that owner Roman Abramovich is keen to strengthen the club's attack in January.

Blues manager Roberto Di Matteo has fielded Fernando Torres upfront in almost all of Chelsea's games so far, with Daniel Sturridge providing the Italian's only other alternative. The situation is one that displeases Abramovich, as he is not convinced that Torres can deliver a sufficient number of goals for the team to challenge in all competitions this season.

After watching Falcao put three past his team in the UEFA Super Cup recently, the Russian has set his sights on bringing the Columbian to Stamford Bridge. Reports in the British and Spanish media indicate that Abramovich has approved a 45 million pound proposal for the striker and is eager for the bid to be submitted to Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea are looking to secure Falcao's signature well ahead of the January transfer window, as club officials wish to steer clear of a bidding war for the 26-year old.

Falcao's contract with his current employers consists of a release clause worth 60 million Euros.
