Hazard, who spent the last two years starring for Lille in the French Ligue 1, was linked with several of Europe's top sides at the end of last season but ultimately chose to join the Blues ahead of fellow Barclays Premier League sides Manchester City and Manchester United.
Since then, the Belgium international has slotted seamlessly into Roberto Di Matteo's starting XI and has already racked up one goal and six assists in three league games.
And Zola, who made 229 league appearances for Chelsea in a seven-year spell, believes Hazard could go on to be a real star at Stamford Bridge.
"Hazard has integrated well into Chelsea's team," he told Gazetta dello Sport. "People are already comparing him to myself.
"He has everything - technique, personality, goalscoring instincts and imagination."
The Italian also had little doubt which sides would challenge for top honours this season when asked about his thought's on the increasingly-competitive nature of the title race.
"Chelsea and the two Manchester clubs," Zola answered.
Hazard is currently away on international duty representing Belgium in the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
