Chelsea, one of the most active teams in this summer's transfer market with an approximate £85million spending on new players, have started the season brightly and are currently one of the few teams in the league with a 100% record.
Eden Hazard, in particular, has been a star for the Blues, scoring one goal and providing six assists so far, while chief striker Fernando Torres has also enjoyed an upturn in form in recent times.
Manager Roberto Di Matteo also has the luxury of choosing from new signings Marko Marin, Oscar and Victor Moses to feature in his attack, and is widely expected to do so in the near future.
This has left Sturridge with precious little opportunities to feature for the Blues, with the England international left on the bench for all of Chelsea's matches so far, and the 22-year-old is reportedly seeking a move away from Stamford Bridge in order to get more playing time under his belt.
According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing Sturridge into his new-look squad and is ready to make an initial bid of £10million for the former Manchester City striker, although Chelsea are expected to want more than £25million for the player.
Another stumbling block to this deal is Di Matteo's reluctance to let their only senior cover for Torres and would be loathe for him to leave for a Premier League rival.
Sturridge may yet attempt to engineer a move away from Chelsea before the transfer window closes on Friday but with two years left on his contract, Chelsea are in no rush to sell and can afford to keep him for another year.
Sturridge made 41 appearances for the Blues last season, scoring 13 goals and providing 7 assists in the process.
