After the midfielder was deemed surplus to requirements by Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, Arsenal and Liverpool confirmed their interest in taking Sahin to the Premier League.

Despite Mourinho's close friendship with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers, Sky Sports reports that Arsene Wenger has now reached an agreement with the La Liga defending champions to take Sahin on a season-long loan.

Negotiations are expected to be wrapped up by today [Wednesday], with the former Borussia Dortmund player arriving at the Emirates Stadium before the Gunners' next league game on Sunday.

Sahin will be Wenger's fourth summer signing, playing alongside Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Carzola in a new-look Arsenal side that has suffered the loss of Robin van Persie and Alex Song.

Earlier in the month, Real manager Jose Mourinho had indicated that it would be in Sahin's best interests if he chose to leave the club in order to secure regular first-team football.

"The point is that he's a young boy who wants to play every match," Mourinho said.

"He wants to play to be happy and in Real Madrid with Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Lassana Diarra, Esteban Granero and Mesut Ozil, the situation is not easy.

"Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot.

"We have great players and when you don't start well, it's difficult to do it.

"If he stays, he's not a problem for me. He's one more solution. We are leaving the situation in his hands.

"Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave we're going to help you to leave.

"If you decide to stay, we're going to support you and try to succeed this season."

Sahin joined Real for £8 million last summer after helping Borussia Dortmund win the Bundesliga title.
