The midfielder has been synonymous with Chelsea for the past decade, featuring heavily in the club's Premier League title success over the years and their recent Champions League triumph. However, with club owner Roman Abramovich believed to be keen on building a young, dynamic team, reports in London indicate that Lampard's days at Stamford Bridge are numbered.
Despite his current contract due to expire at the end of the current campaign, Lampard has revealed on numerous occasions that he is still awaiting an offer of an extension from the club. In an interview with the Daily Mirror, Lampard's current boss Di Matteo voiced his support for the Englishman to continue his role with the Blues.
"Frank is a very important player for us. He has shown his qualities over the years," he stated.
"He can keep playing without a problem. He is in good shape, he has had no major injuries and he looks after himself."
Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf also spoke in a similar capacity, and he tipped the former West Ham player to be vital in the club's campaign this season.
"He is the catalyst in the team. He dictates play, he organises things. Frank is the voice of Di Matteo on the pitch," he said.
"Frank will have a big role for Chelsea this season. There is no doubt in my mind about that."
