The £50 million acquisition endured a poor start to the domestic season as he repeatedly failed to find the back of the net. It took him 25 hours and 40 minutes before he finally scored against Leicester in the FA Cup on March 19 and the Spaniard had to endure constant criticism and deal with continual rumours of a potential departure from the west London outfit during the goal drought.

Luckily for him, the Blues won the FA Cup and the Champions League in dramatic fashion ensuring that their season ended on a positive note. He secured further success with the Spain national squad as he featured in the Euro 2012 final victory over Italy, scoring a goal and making an assist for Juan Mata's goal. His three goals for La Furia Roja also earned him the Golden Boot award despite having been selected for only 189 minutes in the tournament by coach Vicente del Bosque.

Torres' goal in the final allowed him to become the first player to score in two European Championship finals and it brought an end to what was, in his own words, a "complicated season".

"It was a complicated season for me," he told the Guardian.

"It does not mean it was bad, far from it, but it was complicated with very difficult moments for me.

"But to see my family happy after the final, you see whatever happened during the season was worth it."

The former Liverpool player is hoping to carry on his good form into the new season and is determined to focus on only the positives instead of dwelling on what went wrong in the 2011/12 season.

"I will leave the poor memories behind and just remember the three titles, with this final against Italy so beautiful for the team, the whole country and everyone who follows Spain," he continued.

"After a year that was so tough, and during which we suffered so much, it made it all worth it.

"I am sure the Chelsea fans will also be happy. Now I have to rest and make sure I am ready for next season, which I am sure will be full of great moments. At least, I have to think like that."

Torres scored six goals in the Premier League for the Blues in the past season and will be their chief outlet in attack following the departure of Didier Drogba to Shanghai Shenua.
