The Uruguayan striker has faced the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Vincent Kompany in the Barclay's Premier League but he insisted that Skrtel and Silva are the two best defenders that he has ever seen in the game.

The marksman scored 11 goals in the preceding season and has become notable for his ability to bamboozle defenders with his dribbling and flair. But he admitted that his Slovakian team-mate was a difficult proposition to deal with during training and lauded the season that he had last term.

"Right now, I would say Martin Skrtel is the best I have played with," Suarez told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Martin is a brilliant defender and this season I think he has been at his best.

"There are many good ones I have played against but the most difficult would be Thiago Silva from Milan. He is a very good defender and is always a tough opponent. He is quick, strong and all-round a very good player."

The Copa America winner also revealed that he personally took inspiration from Argentinean striker Gabriel Batistuta. Batigol, as he was known by his fans, had a prolific career that saw him play for Fiorentina and Roma and was especially deadly for the national team with whom he scored 56 goals from just 78 appearances.

"For me it [my idol] was Gabriel Batistuta," Suarez revealed.

"I think he was the best player. He was a number nine with plenty of character and he scored great goals."

And among those players that are still in active duty? The striker pointed towards Andres Iniesta, the Euro 2012 player of the tournament, as his favourite current player in football. He still cherishes the Barcelona player's jersey which he obtained when playing for Ajax in the Champions League.

"I have swapped many but Andres Iniesta's would probably be my favourite," he confessed.

"I like this tradition because two or three years ago I would always try to swap shirts with the biggest players."
