Report: United keen on Modric

Manchester United have offered Tottenham £25 million in order to sign Luka Modric, according to reports in the British media.

More Modric magic...

The playmaker is a usual fixture in the annual transfer sagas with Chelsea reportedly interested in signing him in the previous season. But with the procurement of Eden Hazard from Lille, it's unlikely that the Londoners are interested in renewing their interest in the player.

United coach Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to add the Croatian alongside Japanese international Shinji Kagawa to the list of signings by the club in the current transfer window. It is understood that the Scotsman has cooled his interest in perennial transfer target - Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder.

Modric, 26, would be handed a four-year deal and would become one of the top earners at Old Trafford.

The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has repeatedly expressed his happiness at the club but with Chelsea's Champions League win, Spurs will miss out on the competition in the coming season despite ending the recently concluded campaign in fourth place.

The diminutive player signed a six-year deal in May 2010 but it is uncertain if Redknapp will be able to hold onto his star player if he receives a concrete offer. Redknapp is also entering the final year of his contract amid reports that he could be on the way to join Chelsea to replace interim manager Roberto di Matteo.

There are also rumours that Ferguson would be interested in signing Newcastle's Cheick Tiote and Everton left-back Leighton Baines but he would have to pay upwards of £20 million to prise them away from their clubs.
