However, he reveals Spurs aren't the only club interested in his services and could yet decide to move elsewhere.

Vertonghen is currently regarded one of Europe's hottest defensive prospects and has recently led Ajax to back-to-back Eredivisie titles.

And while Ajax coach Frank De Boer has admitted his captain is on his way out of the Amsterdam ArenA this summer, where the player ends up appears to be a complicated issue.

"I have to make a choice," Vertonghen admitted to NUsport. "There's something going on with Tottenham, but there are more clubs interested in signing me.

"The most important thing for me is that I get regular playing time. Plus I need a stable environment."

The Belgium international also expressed his desire to join a club that play a particular brand of football.

"More and more clubs in England seem to realise that you can go a long way with 'good football'," he added.

"Arsenal started with it, and teams like Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester City are playing good football as well."

Vertonghen came through to youth ranks at Ajax and made his debut for the club in 2006, and was named as captain at the start of this season after the departure of Maarten Stekelenburg to Roma.
