Shanghai Shenhua claim Anelka deal

Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has agreed a contract with Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

Anelka is currently training away from the first team squad at Chelsea, with it clear that he will be on the move in January - last week he revealed he knew where he would be playing after the transfer window, admitting it would not be Chelsea.

Shanghai Shenhua say he will be linking up with them, with a contract waiting to be signed.

In comments reported by Reuters, club official Ma Yue said: "We have agreed on all the contract details and we are only waiting for him to sign it."

Both Anelka and defender Alex had submitted transfer requests after failing to establish themselves under Andre Villas-Boas' new regime at Stamford Bridge. The manager had then revealed that both requests had been accepted.

Although Alex's destination is as yet unknown it is expected that both players will exit the club in the January transfer window.

The Chinese outfit have ambitions plans for the future and are keen to raise their profile across the world.

It has been suggested that they could also make a move for Anelka's Chelsea team-mate Didier Drogba.

The Ivorian will see his contract with the Blues expire next summer, and he is yet to agree fresh terms.

Ma admits Shanghai Shenhua would be keen to land Drogba, with contact having been made, but he has made it clear that no deal is close.

"So far, on Drogba to move to Shenhua, our club has no clear confirmation," he added.
