With only 18 months left on his current deal, the Dutchman is being watched by several top clubs, especially with his early season form of nine goals in 13 games attracting attention all over Europe.
Arsenal are loathe to lose yet another top star after the departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to Barcelona and Manchester City during the summer, and to Wenger's relief, contract discussions with the star striker have begun at the Emirates.
Speaking to the BBC, the Frenchman revealed: "He has 18 months to go and I'm confident he'll sign a new deal. I'm always confident."
Van Persie himself admitted he was committed to Arsenal, and is keen to stay, despite reports that his house in London is for sale.
"There have been many stories in the media lately", the Dutchman said, according to reports in the Guardian, adding: "I am committed to Arsenal. That's how it is. I see stories which make me laugh but I can see how frustrating it is from the fans' point of view. I am committed to Arsenal. I am the captain. Don't believe everything you read."
"As for that house story, the house has been for sale for a while but I'm not living on the streets or anything. I have found a really nice house, and yes, it's in London. So I want to put that straight. I am committed and I will show that on the pitch", he concluded.
