Sir Alex Ferguson's men will look to join early leaders Manchester City at the summit of the Barclays Premier League with a victory against Spurs on Monday.

It will be Tottenham's first game of their domestic campaign after seeing their opening fixture against Everton postponed due to the London riots.

Manager Harry Redknapp has revealed that want-away midfielder and Chelsea target Luka Modric will not feature against the champions on Monday.

He told talkSPORT on Sunday: "He's got a little bit of an injury. There's a possibility he could have played through it. But at the moment his head's not in the right place."

Meanwhile, all eyes will once again be on goalkeeper David de Gea after the Spaniard got off to a nightmare start to his United career, committing errors against City in the Community Shield and West Brom in his side's Premier League opener last week.

Ferguson expects his summer signing to receive more protection from officials at Old Trafford.

"He coped with the crosses into the box at West Brom with no problem - he just didn't get any protection," Ferguson claimed.

"You saw the challenges - an elbow in the face and a boy went under him and he didn't get the free-kick.

"It's disappointing when you don't get the protection, but he's at home against Spurs on Monday and it won't be a problem.

"It's just away from home where he might get subjected to that."
