The Red Devils have already had one attempt at the venture, which was eventually scrapped after police objected to the relocation of visiting supporters to Tier 3 of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand, opposite the manager's dug-outs.
As Sociedad have taken their full allocation of tickets for the Group A clash, their supporters will go into the upper section of the East Stand, which is used for away fans for domestic cup ties, including next week's Capital One Cup third round tie with Liverpool.
It means a 1,400 capacity section will be available to season ticket holders who express an interest.
If the 1,400 on offer are not snapped up by season ticket holders they will go to members who have also registered an interest.
Although it is a fan led initiative, United are backing it after employing an acoustic engineer in an effort to increase noise levels earlier this year.
The move has already received the backing of Red Devils midfielder Michael Carrick, who said on Twitter: "Great idea to have a singing section. If I was going as a fan that's where I'd be..."
