Dutch KNVB Beker
FC Groningen saw off ADO Den Haag 1-0 in the highest-profile of Tuesday's KNVB Beker third-round ties.
Michael De Leeuw scored the only goal in the 33rd minute as Groningen won the battle of the only two Eredivisie sides in action on Tuesday.
Third-tier amateurs ADO '20 stunned Eindhoven, from the division above, 6-1 at Sportpark de Vlotter in Heemskerk.
Two goals apiece from Benny Kleine and Franky Zinhagel and a Mark de Loor penalty saw the Topklasse minnows astonishingly take a 5-0 lead inside 13 minutes.
Serhat Koc pulled one back before half-time, but Jeffrey Mols had the final say just after the hour mark.
There was another upset win for a team from the third tier as Rijnsburgse Boys knocked out Eerste Divisie side Emmen on penalties.
Playing under temporary floodlights erected specially for the occasion, the hosts held their higher-ranked opponents to a goalless draw over 120 minutes before prevailing 7-6 in the shoot-out.
Cambuur Leeuwarden were also victorious on penalties against Stormvogels Telstar in a meeting of two sides from the second tier.
Mark Diemers gave Cambuur the lead, but Jerge Hoefdraad equalised in the 90th minute.
Cambuur held firm throughout extra time, despite the dismissal of Tim Bakens, and they emerged victorious 4-3 from the spot.
Go Ahead Eagles won 3-0 away to De Graafschap in the evening's early kick-off in Doetinchem.
The goals all came before half-time, Joey Suk setting the visitors on their way in another all-Eerste Divisie clash before Quincy Promes and Khalid Karami made the result safe.
Lars Veldwijk's double saw Eerste Divisie side Dordrecht past underdogs Scheveningen 2-1.
Scheveningen had been to extra time in their two previous ties, beating UNA and Oss, but Tim Peters' 83rd-minute penalty was not enough to take Tuesday's match beyond 90 minutes.
Belgian Jupiler League
Anderlecht hammered Gent 5-0 to go three points clear at the top of the Belgian Pro League on Tuesday.
Tom De Sutter opened the scoring in the 19th minute and Dennis Praet got a second four minutes later.
De Sutter scored again in the 68th minute and further goals from substitutes Massimo Bruno (74) and Oleksandr Yakovenko (82) completed the rout.
The victory moved Anderlecht clear of second-placed Zulte-Waregem, who have a game in hand.
French Coupe de la Ligue
It took a Nolan Roux strike deep into extra time to guarantee Lille's progression to the quarter finals of the Coupe de la Ligue as plucky Toulouse suffered a 1-0 defeat.
Toulouse had goalkeeper Oliver Blondel to thank as Rudi Garcia's men dominated proceedings throughout, Salomon Kalou and Marvin Martin proving particularly dangerous.
But the visitors' resolve was finally broken when Steeve Yago saw red four minutes from normal time and Blondel saw Roux's shot creep past him in the 117th minute.
The three-time Ligue 1 champions have surprisingly never reached the final of the competition.
Romain Hamouma scored twice as St Etienne booked their quarter-final berth courtesy of a 3-0 victory at Sochaux.
Hamouma beat Pierrick Cros with an unstoppable drive after just nine minutes before squeezing in a second midway through the second half.
Ryad Boudebouz and Ishmael Yartey were denied by visiting keeper Stephane Ruffier and progression was definitely beyond the 2004 winners when substitute Alejandro Alonso struck late on.
Victory in Montbeliard also saw Christophe Galtier's men extend their unbeaten run to seven games in all competitions.
Troyes had to come from behind to avoid elimination by Ligue 2 side Monaco, with Quentin Othon's late strike sealing a 2-1 win that sent Jean-Marc Furlan's men through.
The top-flight outfit struggled to respond when Yannick Ferreira Carrasco put the principality club ahead from the penalty spot in the first half.
But after Brazilian defender Rincon levelled shortly after the hour mark, it fell to Othon to settle the match.
Having beaten Reims in the round of 32, Tuesday's comeback saw Troyes progress to the quarter finals for only the second time in their history.
A first-half goal from Romain Alessandrini, who scored against Nancy in the previous round, saw Rennes defeat lowly Arles 1-0.
The Breton side were given a scare, though, when goalkeeper Benoit Costil only just managed to repel a Romain Rocchi effort in the 79th minute.
Wednesday night's Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris St Germain and Marseille go head to head for a place in the last eight.
French champions Montpellier welcome Bordeaux, with Lyon visiting Nice as Bastia host Auxerre.
