Football News: Mevlut Erdinc
France Coupe de la Ligue

Mevlut Erdinc's double sent Rennes through to the last 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue with a 3-2 win over fellow Ligue 1 strugglers Nancy.

Erdinc's 27th and 47 minute strikes put Rennes in command of the tie after Romain Alessandrini had cancelled out Djamel Bakar's early opener for Nancy. Benjamin Moukandjo scored a late consolation for the visitors.

Ligue 1 Bastia shrugged off four straight losses to ease past third-tier Metz 3-0. Toifilou Maoulida scored twice for the hosts while the visitors had Ali Bamba sent off after 18 minutes.

Auxerre, who have made a poor start to life in Ligue 2 following relegation last season, also reached the last 16 with a 2-0 win over fellow Ligue 2 side Angers.

Despite the 16th minute sending-off of Cameroon midfielder Georges Mandjeck, Auxerre took the lead two minutes later through Paul Ntep and Terence Makengo added a second from the spot moments later.

Dutch KNVB Beker

Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo were the major casualties in the second round of the KNVB Beker tonight, losing on penalties at second-tier Go Ahead Eagles following a 4-4 draw.

Two goals from Brian Linssen had put VVV in control after 38 minutes but Jop van der Linden and Joey Suk scored to force extra time.

Uche Nwofor netted twice for the visitors in the additional 30 minutes - the second a last-gasp equaliser after Marnix Kolder and Suk looked to have assured th Eagles' progress.

However, it was only a temporary reprieve for VVV as the hosts kept their nerve to win 4-3 on spot-kicks.

Elsewhere, RKC Waalwijk proved far too strong for Topklasse side Lisse, easing to a 5-0 away win with two goals from Teddy Chevalier and further strikes from Rodney Sneijder, Nourdin Boukhari and an Imad Najah penalty.
