Neither Boca Juniors nor River Plate broke into the Clausura's top two after the Superclasico between the two Buenos Aires teams ended 1-1.

Martin Palermo put Boca ahead 14 minutes into the second half but Marcelo Gallardo equalised with a free-kick nine minutes later as Velez Sarsfield stayed top of the table.

River trail six points behind Velez, who beat Arsenal 2-0 yesterday, while Boca are 10 points off top spot.

Boca were without star playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme, who failed to recover from a foot injury, but took the lead when Palermo's 30-yard piledriver screamed past Mario Daniel Vega in the 59th minute.

The advantage was shortlived, though, as Gallardo curled a free-kick past Roberto Abbondanzieri.

Elsewhere, Lanus moved within a point of leaders Velez Sarsfield after recording a 2-1 comeback victory over Tigre.

Former Lanus defender Norberto Paparatto put Diego Cagna's Tigre ahead after 23 minutes, but Maximiliano Velazquez equalised for Lanus eight minutes later.

And 19 minutes into the second half, Eduardo Salvio secured Lanus' seventh win.

In Tucuman, Patricio Perez, Marcelo Quinteros and Cristian Canio scored as San Martin eased to a 3-0 win over struggling San Lorenzo.

Perez opened the scoring on the half hour mark, two minutes before Quinteros doubled the advantage.

And six minutes after the hour mark Chilean striker Canio wrapped up an easy three points for San Martin.

Finally in Rosario, Rosario Central needed Leonel Vangioni's strike two minutes after the break to earn a 1-1 draw with Godoy Cruz who had taken a 10th minute lead through Leandro Caruso.
