Garde backs Benzema to bounce back

Lyon coach Remi Garde is backing France striker Karim Benzema to rediscover his scoring form despite enduring an international goal drought stretching back to last June.

Football News: Karim Benzema.

Benzema passed up several opportunities to find the back of the net during France's World Cup qualifier against Georgia on Saturday.

Instead, it was goals from Olivier Giroud, Mathieu Valbuena and Franck Ribery that guided Les Bleus to a 3-1 victory which saw them move two points clear of Spain at the top of Group I with the teams meeting at the Stade de France tomorrow.

Neither has Benzema been a regular starter for Real Madrid this season while his refusal to sing the French national anthem, La Marseillaise, has also commanded the headlines.

Garde, though, believes the former Lyon player can return to form and told TV programme Canal Football Club: "He is a player who is suffering a bit like all strikers who do not score.

"But maybe he begins to want to rush things.

"With the support of the players, his talent and a change in attitude, it will return."
