Elhabbib keeps Global perfect; Loyola cruise

An Izzeldin Elhabbib strike was enough to hand reigning United Football League (UFL) champions Global a 1-0 win over Stallion Sta. Lucia.

Tuesday's clash at the Emperador Stadium saw the only two sides left with a 100% record in the 2013 campaign pitted against one another, and it initially looked as though both runs would be coming to an end as neither side was able to find the breakthrough.

However, all that changed 12 minutes from time when Sudanese striker Izzeldin Elhabbib headed home a corner for his sixth goal of the season, handing all three points to Global for the 7th game in a row.

Stallion will however be heartened by the way they matched the champions for most of the game, although Brian Reid's side were without a total of seven first-teamers due to international duty with Philippines, including Patrick Reichelt, Jeffrey Christiaens, Carli de Murga and Misagh Bahadoran.

Stallion's defeat also allowed Loyola Meralco Sparks to overtake them into second place after they recorded a routine 2-0 win over Green Archers United earlier in the day.

Loyola took the lead two minutes before the half-hour mark through a strike from South Korean import Jeong Byeong-yeol, before Mark Hartmann wrapped up the three points nine minutes from time when he added a second.
