Agger buoyed by consistent Liverpool

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is confident that the club's excellent form will put them in good stead when they host Tottenham at Anfield this Sunday.

Liverpool have been inconsistent in the season until recently, where big wins over Swansea and Wigan saw them move to seventh in the Premier League, just three points behind city rivals Everton.

With a tough match against third-placed Tottenham coming up this weekend, Agger couldn't be happier with the timing of their winning form.

"We are finally starting to show some consistency and that's what we need," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"It's vital we keep playing this way and try to get as high as possible in the league. What is the target for us now? I think we've all agreed that we only look at one game at a time. Our focus now is on Tottenham."

Liverpool bowed out of the Europa League after an away goal elimination by Zenit St Petersburg, but Agger can see the positives that will come from playing lesser games.

"Having one game each week for the rest of the season should help us," he added. "When you have less games it's easier to recover between matches and that's important.

"We should be finishing this season strongly. There's still a lot to play for."

Luis Suarez netted a hat-trick in the win over the Latics to surge to the summit of the top-flight scoring charts with 21 goals, and the 28-year-old had high praise for his team-mate.

"It difficult to compare strikers but Luis is certainly up there with anyone in the world," Agger continued.

"He's in great form at the moment and it's great to see. But Pepe [Reina] was also world class against Wigan and deserved a lot of credit from that game.

"We know we have someone we can really rely on back there - both with his feet and his hands. We saw the best of him in that game."
